The neat front versus the tangled back communicates the idea of the presentable facade that we show the world, masking the sometimes messy reality underneath, an idea which is heightened by the domestic connotations of embroidery.

The brief for this project was to create an album cover using a handmade approach. I chose to do Paul Simon's Hearts & Bones.  For this album cover I wanted to communicate visually the tension that Paul Simon sings about in his song Hearts & Bones. The roughness of the lino contrasts almost uncomfortably with the delicate precision of the embroidery, mirroring the battle between head and heart.
